Sally Russick of The Studio Sublime is hosting a year long challenge which is... sublime... as you'd expect with such a studio name. The challenge is named 'Focusing on Life' and every week Sally is sending a prompt on what should we focus the following week.
This week she's musing about the arrival of fall and the inescapable loss of light (in the Northern Hemisphere) and she asked us to look for intriguing images created by light and shadows.
The whole week has been gray - there were no shadows, because there was little light: everything has been a continuous gray shadow (and downright depressing - it's a good thing I didn't have time to think about it :) )... today I got the same gray... except for 15 minutes, just a moment ago.
And that was my moment!
In case you wonder ~ a couple of years ago I applied spring decals on the living room windows: butterflies and flowers. That was my way of going to an incredibly dark and humid winter... and I left them there, they make me smile :)
Now I had some huge butterflies flying away in the sun, or their reflection on the sheers, to be exact!
Thank you for stopping by ~ please visit the rest of the group to see what lurks in the shadows :)
Nice shots Alicia. I'm glad you had your camera when the moment came ")
ReplyDeleteWhat a great effect on the sheers. Hope it gets a little sunnier for you.
ReplyDeleteperfect pic Alicia! love the reflection of your butterflies
ReplyDeleteThose are perfect, I love those shadows!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely shadows to see - always reminiscent of summer!
ReplyDeleteSuch clever butterflies... we would all seek to follow the sun as they do!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great effect! You may have saved some birds from flying into the window by leaving those up, too!
ReplyDeleteIt was gloomy here a lot of the week too. We would have sun when it first came up then by the time I'd think camera it was gone. Interesting shots of giant butterflies on you drapes!
ReplyDeleteMost weeks I'm struggling for an idea for these challenges and I fear I might have to miss the challenge. But it never fails that at the last moment something comes to mind. I love your photos as the butterflies seem to dance across the window. The play of light and dark is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLove the butterflies. I was thinking you must have a butterfly plant or somethings. Never occurred to me they were decals. Great post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Sometimes those of us in this area have to create our own sunshine :-) Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteNow that's pretty cool! Sounds like a lot of us had gloomy weather this past week. If I keep the prompt in my head though invariably something pops in. We've got similar decals on our garage windows to save birds. We had quail running right into them and not only breaking the glass, but of course not doing them any good either. I hated putting them up - thinking they'd be tacky, but I don't really see them much any more. Great job on the shot!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I bet the sheers really make the shadows dance in a breeze. You are suddenly making me long for the starry sky I had in my bedroom from about mid-teens. I had paid the big buck for some nice and very brightly glowing stickers from Mrs.Tiggy Winkles, and then decided it wasn't enough and filled in with the dollar store variety. Best move ever!! The cheaper ones weren't as bright so there was this great illusion of depth in my sky. I made my parents leave them when they sold the house, ten years on they still looked wonderful. I bet the new owner loved them!
ReplyDeleteOh, those pics came out great! I could tell right away they were butterflies, love that it just happened when you were right there to capture the moment.
ReplyDeleteGreat shadows Alicia.
ReplyDeleteThose butterflies were a great subject for a shadowy theme. That is a cool thing about butterflies - that their very shape makes us smile. Hope your gray skies clear up soon!
ReplyDeleteI love the reflection/shadow of these - they're so pretty. Very cool shots for this week's challenge!!
ReplyDeleteFinally getting round to replying...
ReplyDeleteLove the big butterfly shadows - maybe I should try decals to brighten the long grey winter days which are rapidly approaching...
Great photos :)
